Fireworks Industry
Sodium chlorate (NaClO₃) is mainly used as an oxidizer in fireworks and firecrackers. Its high oxygen content (about 45%) can significantly enhance combustion. It is commonly used to produce potassium perchlorate (KClO₄) and ammonium perchlorate (NH₄ClO₄), both of which are common oxidizers in fireworks that can increase explosive power and color brightness. In addition, the stability of sodium chlorate makes it suitable for storage and transportation.

Sodium chlorate (NaClO₃) is mainly used as an oxidizer in the military industry and is widely applied in the manufacture of explosives, propellants, and pyrotechnics. Its high oxygen content (about 45%) effectively enhances combustion efficiency and is commonly used in formulations of mixed explosives (such as potassium chlorate explosives) and solid rocket fuels. Additionally, sodium chlorate can be used to produce smoke grenades, signal flares, and other special ammunition by reacting with other chemicals to generate colored smoke or intense light. Its stability and availability make it an important chemical raw material in the military field.
Water Treatment
Sodium chlorate (NaClO₃) is mainly used in water treatment for **disinfection and algae control**. The active oxygen released upon its decomposition can effectively kill bacteria, viruses, and algae. In industrial circulating water, cooling towers, and wastewater treatment, it serves as a slow-release oxidant to inhibit biofilm formation, preventing pipe corrosion and blockage. Additionally, sodium chlorate can be used to prepare chlorine dioxide (ClO₂), a highly efficient and safe drinking water disinfectant. Compared to chlorine gas, it produces fewer by-products and is suitable for applications with high water quality requirements. It is important to control the dosage to avoid excessive residues.

Using sodium chlorate as the raw material, under strongly acidic conditions, reducing agents such as SO2, CH.OH, NaCl, HCl, and H2O reduce sodium chlorate to ClO2 to achieve pulp bleaching.
