Potassium perchlorate (chemical formula: KClO₄) is a colorless or white crystalline powder that dissolves readily in water but is insoluble in ether and ethanol. It is a strong oxidizing agent and can form explosive mixtures when combined with reducing agents, organic substances, or flammable materials such as sulfur, phosphorus, or metal powders. Compared to potassium chlorate, potassium perchlorate is more stable; however, it decomposes into potassium chloride and oxygen at its melting point.

Due to its strong oxidizing properties, it also finds limited use in the military sector, such as serving as a key component in rocket propellants.
